Welcome to the COPPR blog

This blog is for COPPR members or potential members trying to get a digestible sense of the wider world of policy process theory.

We aim to provide some new and regular posts on key policy process concepts and theories. Each post will either summarise key aspects of a theory or describe exciting new developments in thinking and research. We will organise this work with broad reference to the theories that are well represented at COPPR and in key texts like Theories of the Policy Process, including:

  • Multiple Streams Framework
  • Punctuated Equilibrium Theory
  • Policy Feedback Theory
  • Advocacy Coalition Framework
  • Narrative Policy Framework
  • Institutional Analysis and Development Framework
  • Ecology of Games Framework
  • Social Construction Framework

We aim to be flexible in this approach, such as to identify new developments in concepts or networks. For example, some come to COPPR to learn about key actors such as policy entrepreneurs, processes like implementation, or cross-cutting themes like information/ knowledge use for policy. Indeed, we welcome your ideas on what concepts to cover, and your input to those discussions.

We also aim to provide a wider sense of the field by reposting or linking to blogs and resources from other sites –  including the Policy Studies Journal, Policy and Politics – and newsletter associated with some theories, such as the Multiple Streams Framework.

All going well, this site will provide thriving online activity to match the energy of the COPPR conferences themselves.

Please watch this space for more developments.
